Hairspray, the Musical, Ocean City’s Kite Festival, and The Ward Foundation World Carving Competition Highlight This Month’s Offerings

Every Sat. & Sun. / Park and Flea outdoor market, Route 13 and Main St., downtown Salisbury. Saturdays from 7 a.m.; Sundays from 9 a.m. Find unexpected treasures, including antiques.
April 6 – 8 and 13 – 15 (Fri. – Sun.) / Hairspray, the Musical at Salisbury University’s Holloway Hall Auditorium. Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m.; Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets: $5 – $12.
April 6 & 7 (Fri. & Sat.) / The Eastern Shore Ballet Theater Presents Alice in Wonderland at the Wicomico High School Auditorium, Salisbury. Times: Fri. at 7 p.m.; Sat. at 2 p.m. Tickets: Adults, $15; seniors and students, $10.
April 7 (Sat.) / 4th Annual Showcase of Christian Authors and Banquet at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center, Salisbury. Attendees can enjoy a buffet dinner, get tips on writing and publishing a book, meet Christian authors, hear about the books, and purchase autographed copies.Tickets: $50, available on line at; or phone 757-709-9392. April 7 (Sat.) / Community Yard Sale at the St. Francis de Sales parking lot, 500 Camden Ave., Salisbury. Benefits Women Supporting Women. $10 to sell and free to shop. Business vendors may also participate for $20 per space. Set-up begins at 5:30 a.m. Sellers must provide own table. Tents are not allowed.
April 14 (Sat.) / Engineering Challenge: Paper Airplanes, NASA Wallops Visitor Center, Chincoteague Rd., Wallops Island, VA. Assemble a team of family or friends and accept the challenge: Can you engineer a paper airplane to fly the farthest, hit a target, and turn a corner? Geared toward ages 6 to adult. 2 – 3 p.m. Free.
April 20 (Fri.) / Third Friday Celebration, Downtown Plaza, Salisbury. Third Friday moves back outside with food, art, vendors, and live music. This month’s theme: “Think Spring.” Event begins at 5 p.m.
April 20 & 21 / Salisbury Chamber Singers present Unforgettable: Bing to Bernstein at the Wicomico Presbyterian Church, 129 Broad St., Salisbury. The group will sing several Bing Crosby hits, followed by songs from the American songbook, including selections from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story. Times: Friday at 7:30; Saturday at 3 p.m. Tickets: Adults, $15; seniors, $10; students, free. Purchase tickets at the door or in advance by phoning 410-749-8374.
April 20, 21, 27, & 28 (Fri. & Sat.) / Calendar Girls at Guerrieri Hall Auditorium, Wor-Wic Community College. The Community Players of Salisbury present a British comedy about a group of women who pose for a calendar in order to raise money for a charitable cause. Based on a true story. Times: April 20 at 8 p.m.; April 21 at 2 p.m. & 8 p.m.; April 27 at 8 p.m.; April 28 at 2 p.m. Tickets: 9 – $15.
April 22 (Sun.) / Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra at the Ocean City Performing Arts Center, 4001 Coastal Highway. The music of Mozart, Beethoven, and Mahler with guest soprano Janice Chandler and piano soloist Leon Fleisher. 3 p.m. Tickets: $40 + $45.
April 27 – 29 (Fri. – Sun.) / Ward Foundation’s World Carving Competition at the Ocean City Convention Center. See more than a thousand beautiful waterfowl carvings in many sizes and styles; purchase art, jewelry, and other items from a host of vendors.
