and Endless Beach Activities Highlight August’s Events

Sundays in August / Sundaes in the Park with Fireworks, Northside Park, 125th Street, Ocean City. Sundaes and a free concert at 7 p.m.; fireworks at 9 p.m.

Mondays in August / Talbot Street Beach Fireworks, Ocean City. Show begins at 10:30 p.m. Free.
Tuesdays in August / Beach Dance Party, Caroline Street Stage and the beach, Ocean City. 7 – 9 p.m. Bring your beach chairs, blankets, and friends, and dance to a DJ’s music. Free.

Aug. 5 – 9 (Mon. – Fri.) / White Marlin Open, Ocean City’s Harbour Island Marina, 14th St. and the bay. World’s largest and richest billfish tournament. More than 300 boats will vie for $2 million in prize money. Spectators can watch weigh-ins free of charge from 4 – 9:15 p.m. at the marina. For more info., visit
Aug. 7 – 11 (Wed. – Sun.) / Artists Paint O.C.: Plein Air Event. Watch local and visiting artists paint the scenic views of Ocean City. Aug. 10 (Sat.) / Wet Paint Sale and Show, O.C. Center for the Arts, 94th Street. Be among the first to purchase art created by the many artists who participated in the Plein Air Event. Free admission. Aug. 11 (Sun.) / Quick-Draw Event, S. Division St. and the Boardwalk. Watch artists paint against the clock in this two-hour competition. Painting: 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Judging and sale: 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Aug. 10 (Sat.) / Peach Festival at the Preston Fire Hall, 3680 Choptank Rd., Preston, Md. Fresh peaches, peach baked goods and ice cream, soft-crab sandwiches, Em-ings chicken dinners, plus crafts and vendors. 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Aug. 11 & 12 (Sun. & Mon.) / D.C. band Soja appears at Seacrets, 117 49th St., Ocean City. 9 p.m. Tickets: $45 per show.
Aug. 16 (Fri.) / Salisbury’s Third-Friday Celebration on the Plaza. Vendors, food, and live music. August’s theme is “Water World.” Free. 5 – 8 p.m.
Aug. 16 – 18 (Fri.- Sun.) / Wicomico County Fair at Winterplace Park, Salisbury. Games, animals, rides, food, music, car and truck shows, Maryland high school rodeo, home arts, beer garden, local vendors, helicopter rides, and competitions. Aug. 22 – 25 (Thurs. – Sat.) / Ocean City Jeep® Week, Ocean City Convention Center, 4001 Coastal Highway. Times: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. General admission: $10; multi-day discount passes available. Aug. 24 (Sat.) / Live at the Filmore—The Definitive Tribute to the Original Allman Brothers Band dinner and show at the Wicomico Civic Center, Salisbury. Dinner at 5 p.m.; show at 7 p.m. Tickets: $45.
Aug. 25 (Sun.) / Fresh Start: A Wicomico County Back-to-School Event. The event provides students in need with resources to help them achieve success. More than a dozen organizations have collaborated to reach thousands of children and invest in the future of the area’s youth. Because of this cooperative approach, students are able to receive backpacks, supplies and haircuts. Also, families can learn about community resources and enjoy activities. Admission: Free. Time: noon – 5 p.m.
Aug. 30 (Fri.) / Nightrain: The Guns N’ Roses Experience dinner and show at the Wicomico Civic Center, Salisbury. Dinner at 6 p.m.; show at 8 p.m. Tickets: $35 – $40.
