As an Eastern Shore native who loves this community, I have decided to start an annual scholarship for the local high school students. Each year I will award three $1500 “Brandon Brittingham Scholarships”; one each to Parkside, WI-HI and Bennett. This first Scholarship is for Parkside high school only.
To coincide with the great strides our City is making in revitalizing our downtown, this year the scholarship will be awarded to the students who provide what the City and I feel is the best revitalization plan for the property defined as “Lot 30” that consists of a parking lot on the western side of the North Prong of the Wicomico River. I am also including the parking lot on the eastern side of the Wicomico River for a comprehensive approach – although this is not a City-owned property. Approximate total of the area is roughly 1.5 acres.
The City of Salisbury is focused on revitalization of its downtown to promote smart growth and enhance the lives of residents in the City of Salisbury. Salisbury has identified several properties to be revitalized in recent years and one of them is Lot 30. For the purposes of this project we ask that a revitalization plan be submitted for property pictured below.
Guidelines for Submission:
The plan should focus on but is not limited to: Mixed-use development, meaning commercial and residential in the same buildings. Also the plan could include how the waterfront could be utilized more efficiently.
• It is suggested that students who participate visit the site.
• It is not a requirement but is suggested that a drawing or rendering accompanies the written description
• Deadline for Submission of Plan is March 15th, 2014
At least a one page write up, with a maximum of a three page write up that describes what the students feel are the best use of the property, and a detailed description of how they would revitalize it.
The winners will be announced April 15th and the scholarships will be presented at Senior Night. We look forward to seeing the plans!
