Parades, concerts, and celebrations brighten the Christmas season on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Weekends in December / Winterfest of Lights (thru Jan. 1) at Ocean City’s Northside Park. Sip hot chocolate in the heated Winterfest Village pavilion, take a photo with Santa, and board the Winterfest Express tram to tour fairy-tale-themed exhibits. The one-mile journey travels past hundreds of animated lighted displays and a 50-foot Christmas tree. Fri. – Sat., 5:30 -10:30 p.m./ Sun., 5:30 – 9:30 p.m. Tram tickets: $5 for those 12 and older; others, free. / Horse-Drawn Sleigh Rides with Santa (thru Dec. 24) on the Boardwalk in Ocean City. $10 per person; children under three, free. Dec. 1 –  4 (Thurs. – Sun.)  & Dec. 9 – 11 (Fri. – Sun.) / Meet Me in St. Louis (the musical play) at The Clear Space Theater, 20 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach, Del. Join the Smith family at the 1904 World’s Fair. Based on the holiday movie; memorable music includes “The Trolley Song” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Tickets: $16.60 – $34.28 (including fees). Times vary. Dec. 3 (Sat.)  / Wicomico Humane Society Quarter Auction at the Wicomico County Civic Center. Help the animals by bidding on auction items. Dec. 3 (Sat.) / Michael Londras Celtic Yuletide at the Ocean City Performing Arts Center (located within the Convention Center), 4001 Coastal Hwy. Tenor Londra sings Irish, Celtic, and Gaelic carols, plus his own stylish versions of familiar songs such as “The First Noel” and “O Come Emmanuel.” Show also features award-winning Irish dancers. 8 p.m. Tickets: $35 & $45. 410-289-2800.
Dec. 3 & 4 (Sat. & Sun.) / Delmarva Model Railroad Club Open House, Delmar, Del. Watch large- and small-scale model trains operate on an 8,000-sq.-ft. layout. Dec. 4 (Sun.) / Holiday House Tours, Newtown  Neighborhood, Salisbury. Visit eight beautiful and historic homes, each decorated for Christmas. Homes open from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tickets: $15. Purchase on tour day from 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Poplar Hill Mansion, 117 Elizabeth Street.
Dec. 4 (Sun.) / Eastern Shore Ballet Theater presents The Nutcracker at the Wicomico High School Auditorium. 2 p.m. Tickets: adults, $15; students & seniors, $10; children under three, free.
Dec. 27 – 30  (Tues. – Fri.) / Governors Challenge High School Basketball Tournament at the Wicomico Civic Center. A total of 101 teams from Md., Del., Va., and five other states will participate. Tickets: $10; weeklong pass, $30. For full information, visit

Jan. 1 (Sun.) / New Years Day Events / Ocean City Penguin Swim, Princess Royale Hotel, 91st Street. Registration and check-in at 11:30 a.m.; swim at 1 p.m. / Ocean City Mayors New Years Concert, Performing Arts Center, featuring the Delmarva Big Band. 1:30 p.m. Free.
