Continuous / Numerous recreational events for youth and adults sponsored by Wicomico County Parks and Recreation. See the entire list at Register your children now for this winter’s youth basketball leagues. There will be four age divisions, spanning from four years to fourteen years. Play begins on Jan. 3 or Jan. 7, depending on the division. Cost: $45 for Division One, $60 for other divisions. Go here to register:
Now through Dec. 18 (Saturdays & Sundays) / Free Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides in Downtown Berlin, Md. Time: 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Now through Dec. 31 (Wednesdays thru Sundays) / Winterfest of Lights at Northside Park, 200 125th St., Ocean City. Follow a paved path and walk past thousands of sparkling holiday lights and many animated light displays. Sip hot chocolate, take a photo with Santa, visit a gift shop, and view a 50-foot Christmas tree. Dates and times: Wednesdays through Sundays, 5:30 – 9:30 p.m. Admission: $6. Children under 12, free. Subject to closure for inclement weather. Check the town of Ocean City’s Facebook page before coming. Mobility devices available for rent for those who do not wish to walk.
Now through Dec. 31 (every day) / Salisbury Holiday Hunt, downtown. Make your way around Salisbury’s most decked out downtown attractions and complete challenges to earn points. Top participants will be entered to win a prize basket. Participation is free. To register, visit Up to 500 participants can register.
Now through Dec. 31 (Wednesdays thru Sundays) / Holiday Train Display at the Ocean City Convention Center’s Welcoming Center, 4001 Coastal Highway. Bring the family to see a display constructed by local model-train enthusiasts. Time: 5:30 – 9:30 p.m. Free; donations accepted to benefit the Ocean City Beach Patrol.
Dec. 2 – 4 (Fri. thru Sun.) / The Nutcracker presented by the Eastern Shore Ballet Theater at the Wicomico High School Auditorium, Salisbury. Times: Dec. 2nd at 7 p.m.; Dec. 3rd at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; Dec. 4th at 2 p.m. Tickets: $15 – $20.
Dec. 2 & 9 (Fridays) / Dinner With Santa at Brew River Restaurant and Bar, 502 West Main St., Salisbury. Enjoy dinner and a meet-and-greet with Santa. Order from the dinner menu. (Children’s menu available.) No additional fee. Santa will visit from 5 to 8 p.m. Call for reservations: 410-677-6757.

Dec. 3 & 4 (Sat. & Sun.) / Delmarva Model Railroad Club Open House, 103 State St., Delmar, Del. Watch multiple trains operate on seven different layouts. Refreshments for sale. Times: Sat., 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.; Sun., 12 noon – 4 p.m. Admission: free.
Dec. 4 (Sun.) / Salisbury Jaycees Christmas Parade, downtown Salisbury. Time: 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Rain date: Dec. 11 at 1 p.m. The parade will start at the intersection of Poplar Hill Ave. and East Main Street. It will continue up East Main to West Main Street, and will conclude at Mill Street downtown.
December 4 (Sun.) / The Mid-Atlantic Symphony presents “Holiday Joy,” featuring soprano Rochelle Bard, at the Ocean City Performing Arts Center, 4001 Coastal Highway. Time: 3 p.m. Tickets: $55.
Dec. 6 & 7 (Tues. & Wed.) / Paw Patrol at the Wicomico Civic Center, 500 Civic Ave., Salisbury. Live on stage, the heroic pups from PAW Patrol embark on a pirate-themed adventure to uncover hidden treasure. Time: 6 p.m. Tickets: $30 – $70.–the-great-pirate-adventure-1.
Dec. 9 & 16 (Fridays) / Santa’s Village at Riverwalk Games Park (South Division St. and West Market St.), Salisbury. Ride the Jolly Trolley to visit Christmas-decorated homes, take a photo with Santa, enjoy free hot chocolate and cookies, and take a free book courtesy of the Wicomico Library. Times: 6 – 8 p.m. Admission: free.
Dec. 10 (Sat.) / Ocean City Comic Con at the O.C. Convention Center, 4001 Coastal Highway. Characters, vendors, discussion panels, anime screenings, video game tournaments, and other activities. Time: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Admission: adults, $12; children 9 and under, free (with paying adult). $1 off admission with a non-perishable food item for Diakonia; $1 off admission if in costume.
Dec. 10 (Sat.) / Jingle All the Way 5k Run/Walk beginning at the Mardela Athletic Complex, 210 Station St., Mardela, Md. The race officially starts at 9 a.m. All finishers earn a finisher medal after crossing the finish line. Registration includes a shirt (while supplies last), a bib number (with timing chip for 5K), water and refreshments after completion of the race. Cost: $35. More info. here:
Dec. 14 (Wed.) / Magician Lyra performs at SweetFrog, 2721-E North Salisbury Blvd., Salisbury. Enjoy frozen yogurt and magic for kids of all ages. Time: 6:00 – 6:45 p.m. Admission is free.
Dec. 17 (Sat.) / Winter Wonderland at the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art, 909 S. Schumaker Dr., Salisbury. Create crafts and enjoy a dance performance by D’Ann Danse and activities with The Puppet Co. Time: 10 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Dec. 26 – 30 (Mon. thru Fri.) / Governor’s Challenge High School Basketball Tournament at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center, the University of Md. Eastern Shore, and Wicomico High School. This year, 110 teams will compete. Weeklong admission: Adults, $40; children ages 3 – 11, $20.  Daily admission: adults, $12; children ages 3 – 11, $6. Children age 2 and under, free. Dec. 30 (Fri.) /Ocean City Mayor’s New Year Event: The Greatest Piano Men at the Ocean City Performing Arts Center, 4001 Coastal Highway.Tribute artists perform songs made popular by Billy Joel, Elton John, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and more. Time: 7 p.m. Tickets: $75.
Dec. 31 / Jan. 1 (Sat. / Sun.) New Year’s Eve Ball Drop and Party, Main St. and N. Division St., downtown Salisbury. Confetti, live music, and a ball drop at midnight. All ages welcome. Begins at 9 p.m. on Dec. 31st. Free.
Jan. 1 (Sun.) Atlantic General Hospital’s Penguin Swim at the Princess Royale Oceanfront Resort, 9100 Coastal Hwy. in Ocean City. Take a wintery dip in the Atlantic to benefit the hospital. Registration: $25 on or before Dec. 30th; $30 on day of the event. Times: check-in and day-of-event registration, 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Swim begins at 12 noon.
