I am a big fan of supporting my local community and recognizing those who help enrich and elevate the local culture in a positive way. One recurring theme I have heard living in the Salisbury area is that there will never be a successful downtown area and also that there is no nightlife.
Those two themes have changed drastically in the last 16 months and I got the privilege to sit down with two local leaders who have helped transform downtown, and have helped dispel the myth of an unsuccessful downtown, and “there is nothing to do in Salisbury”
These two gentlemen I am speaking of are Jeremy “Roadie” Norton and Maurice “Dj Bsides” Waters.
Check the interview below:
Roadie along with another local leader and central piece to the momentum in downtown Salisbury, Joey Gilkerson decided to open a bar Roadie Joe’s in Downtown Salisbury in a location that every business that has gone in there recently has consistently failed.
Taking the risk to open in this location is commendable, but not only did they open it amongst immense odds, they have made it successful, and have been synergetic piece to the overall success of our downtown. They could have opened it anywhere, but this is the location they picked, intentionally because of their love of downtown Salisbury, and they wanted to be part of the positive change for our city.
Dj Bsides has been another integral part of the nightlife scene and overall growth in Downtown Salisbury. Not just a local DJ, but part of the Vizion Creative crew, who have consistently put out video and digital media on 3rd Friday, Revitalization projects downtown, to the viral videos of Rick Danger.
Dj Bsides who has a local following when he DJ’s has been the catalyst for helping fill many of the nightlife spots in Downtown Salisbury.
Visionaries like these two are one of the reasons I love to live in this city and call it my home, and I just wanted everyone to recognize the work these two are putting in to help continue to push our city forward!
