May 17 – 20 (Thurs. – Sun.) / Cruisin’ Ocean City. See more than 3,000 hot rods, muscle cars, and classics. Special guest: Rob Wolfe from TV’s American Pickers. (See website below for Rob’s times and places.) Events take place at the Ocean City Convention Center, at the O.C. Inlet, along the Boardwalk, and at the U.S. 13 Dragway in Delmar, Delaware. Convention Center & Inlet hours: Thurs. – Sat., 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Sun., 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Boardwalk automobile parades take place Thurs., Fri., and Sat. mornings beginning at 8 a.m. Parades proceed from North Division St. south to the Inlet. Spectator tickets to the Convention Center and Inlet areas: $10 – $15 per day; $25 for all four days. May 18 & 19 (Fri. night – Sat. morning) / Bunk with the Beasts campout at the Salisbury Zoo. This overnight adventure includes a dinner cookout, a guided tour, animal encounters, a nighttime hike through the zoo, and a continental breakfast the next morning. Campers need to bring their own tents, sleeping bags, and flashlights. A limited number of tents will be available to rent for $25 each. Fun for families with children aged four and over. $35 per person. Event begins at 6 p.m. on May 18 and ends at 9 a.m. on May 19. May 19 (Sat.) / Wings & Wheels at SBY Regional Airport, Airport Rd., Salisbury. Family-friendly fun! Military jet fighters, private aircraft, and “Wheels that Heal” classic cars on display. Airplane, helicopter, and tethered balloon rides available, including an opportunity to fly aboard a B-25 WW II-era bomber. Tour the SBY control tower and a Piedmont Airlines aircraft. Watch a model-aircraft demonstration presented by the Mid-Atlantic Radio Kontrol Society of Fruitland. See Naval Academy skydivers and a drone demonstration. May 26 (Sat.) / “Run to Remember Memorial Day” 5k Run/Walk, Winter Place Park, 6737 Blue Ribbon Road in Salisbury. Event benefits the Wicomico War Veterans Memorial located at the Civic Center. The course will be on wooded trails. Registration is at 8 a.m.; race begins at 9 a.m. Registration is $30 on race day. Early registration (by May 9th at 5 p.m.) is $25. May 28 (Mon.) / Memorial Day Ceremony at the Wicomico Civic Center, Salisbury. Area residents are invited to honor those men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. The ceremony will take place at the Wicomico War Veterans’ Memorial in front of the Civic Center. (In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved inside to the Civic Center’s Midway Room.) As part of the ceremony, there will be a lowering of the colors by the Wicomico County JROTC, ringing of the Red Knights Memorial Bell, branch prayers, and a volley of arms by the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office. Veterans, as well as their families, will be recognized during the ceremony, including a special family tribute to Gold Star Mothers. War Memorial Committee members will perform the Reading of Veterans Names, which recognizes those Wicomico County residents who have fallen in the line of service.
