Being huge football fan I recently had a dream come true where I was invited to a private training camp practice for the Washington Redskins and had the chance to meet RG3(full disclaimer I am a Ravens fan, but do support the Redskins as I am from Maryland). I got to watch the Redskins run a many different offensive and defensive packages, including the wildcat a few times. Kurt Cousins took the field a few times, as well as Rex Grossman and Pat White. RG3 was not fully suited up; he was throwing the ball back and forth and running a few wind sprints.
I watched him throw the ball a few times 20-30 yards effortlessly, and immediately noticed why he is such a dynamite professional football player. His stature compared to other players was small, which makes it even more remarkable that at his size his is such a phenomenal NFL quarterback. Running half speed wind sprints, you could see his explosiveness and speed when he was barely putting forth any effort. After training Camp was over the media rushed RG3 with questions, but he went directly to the 100 plus fans outside.
I got to meet RG3 for a few minutes, get his autograph and talk to him. To be as big of a star as he is, he truly was a humble individual. He signed every single autograph of the 100 plus fans eagerly waiting for him and talked to every fan that was there. When I asked if he was going to play this season, his body language changed and the tone in his voice changed as well: “Of course I am coming back” The determination in his eyes said it all, he truly has the heart of a champion, but the humility of your average person, that stands to his popularity.
I am truly thankful to have had the opportunity to meet such a great leader, and thank the Washington Redskins for the opportunity to spend the day at training
camp with them!
